Shift to Games: Paths towards a gaming career [hosted by SGA]

The gaming industry has, for years already, stood out as one of the most promising ecosystems at the intersection of technology, art, entertainment and business. This is the case globally, with the continuous growth of the industry even despite the COVID-19 crisis. The same is reflected at the local level: the Serbian gaming ecosystem is in a phase of rapid growth, and one of the key topics is certainly talent, i.e. “creative workforce” that will be able to support the possibilities and potentials that lie ahead. Given that the Serbian gaming industry is relatively young compared to some of the ecosystems in the more developed countries, the challenge for all actors is strategic development of some of the essential complementary aspects: from legislation or admin and tax procedures, through funding and government support and investment, all the way to the most important field for developing the talent pool and future professionals in gaming – formal and non-formal education.
In this panel, we will discuss various aspects of the professional engagement of creative professionals within the gaming sector. How can designers, illustrators, modelers, architects, composers, animators, VFX artists and many other creatives move and/or shift towards a career in gaming? What are the key skills, and what kind of mindset is necessary? Where to get an education? How to “retrain”? Do you need to be a passionate gamer to be a successful professional in the sector? These are some of the issues we will touch upon in conversation with representatives of initiatives and individuals who are, each in their own way, involved in various aspects of development of creatives professionals, as well as with one creative who has more than succesfully directed his professional path towards the gaming industry, and is one of the key figures within one of the most succesfull Serbian gaming companies.
The panelists are Relja Bobić on behalf of the Serbian Games Association (SGA) as the moderator, Arsenije Savić on behalf of DACIDA platform, Miljana Jovović as the representative of Crater VFX Training Center and, last but not least, Ivan Zorkić, Art Director at Mad Head Games.
